Beige Stone Powder Room in Carson

Small powder room with large-format beige stone-look wall tiles and wall-hung toilet in a Carson home

About This Project

A powder room tile installation in a Carson ranch home, replacing original 1970s wall tile with large-format beige stone-look porcelain. The tile runs floor to ceiling on all walls, with a dark gray accent tile behind the toilet that creates a subtle two-tone effect without a hard border line.

Powder rooms in Carson's ranch homes are compact — typically around 20 square feet of floor space. Working in a tight space with large-format tile (this was 12x24) requires precise cuts and careful sequencing. The toilet was removed to allow continuous tile behind it; reinstalling over a tiled floor required a toilet flange extender to account for the added tile thickness. That detail is easy to overlook and can cause a leak at the base if not addressed.

What We Did

1 Demo of original tile, toilet removal, substrate prep on walls and floor.
2 Set floor tile first, then wall tile working from floor up to ceiling.
3 Cut and fit tile around toilet flange; coordinated with plumber on flange extender installation.
4 Grouted with warm gray sanded grout. Inspected all cuts and joint widths before cleanup.
