Flat Surfaces. Tight Joints. No Shortcuts.

Every tile job starts with substrate prep. If the floor underneath is not flat, the tile above will not stay flat. We float, skim, and level before we ever open a bag of thinset. That extra step is why our work holds up.

Where We Work

Local to the South Bay. We know these neighborhoods and we show up on time.

Old Torrance

The historic core of Torrance, with craftsman bungalows, Spanish-revival homes, and a tight neighborhood grid. We know the housing stock here and work with it, not against it.

Harbor Gateway

A long, narrow corridor connecting Torrance to the Harbor. Mix of residential and light commercial. We handle both, often on the same street.

Carson

Suburban tracts built mostly in the 1960s and 70s, with slab foundations and original tile that is well past its service life. Replacement work is a big part of what we do here.

About Us

Small Crew. Focused Work.

Old Torrance Tile Installer is a hands-on tile installation crew based at 1001 W Carson St in Torrance. We take on residential and commercial work across Old Torrance, Harbor Gateway, and Carson.

We do not subcontract the work out. The people who come to your home to measure and plan are the same people who set your tile. That matters when it comes to how the finished job looks and how long it lasts.

Common Questions

Before You Call

How do I know if my subfloor needs repair before tiling?

Walk the floor and press down in different spots. Any flex or bounce means the subfloor is not rigid enough to hold tile long-term. Tile needs a deflection-free base — if the substrate moves, the grout joints crack first and the tiles follow. We check this on every estimate visit and tell you what we find before any work begins.

What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?

Porcelain is fired at higher temperatures and has a water absorption rate below 0.5%, making it denser and harder. Ceramic absorbs more water and is generally easier to cut. For outdoor use in Southern California, porcelain is the practical choice. For interior walls and dry floors, ceramic performs well and usually costs less.

Do I need a permit to retile my bathroom in Torrance?

A straight tile replacement on existing walls and floors generally does not require a permit in Torrance. If you are moving a drain, adding a shower where there was none, or modifying the waterproofing membrane in a way that changes the structural scope, a permit may be required. We can walk you through what applies to your specific project.

How long does a bathroom tile job typically take?

A full bathroom demo and retile — floor, tub surround, and walls — typically runs three to five working days depending on the layout complexity, the tile size, and whether the substrate needs repair work. Shower-only installs with new waterproofing are usually two to three days. We give you a day-range estimate before we start, not after.

Can you match existing tile if I need a repair, not a full replacement?

Sometimes, sometimes not. If the tile is a current production line, we can often source matching material. If it was discontinued or custom, an exact match is unlikely. We will tell you honestly what the options are — a visible patch, a creative border solution, or a full floor replacement — and let you decide.

What should I do to prepare my home before the tile crew arrives?

Clear the work area of furniture, rugs, and anything breakable within ten feet of where we are working. If it is a kitchen floor, empty the lower cabinets near the work zone. Bathrooms need to be cleared of all toiletries and towels. We handle demo debris and tile waste — you just need a clear path to the work area.
