Gray Subway Tile Shower in Harbor Gateway

Classic gray subway tile walk-in shower with glass door and marble mosaic shower floor in a Harbor Gateway home

About This Project

A walk-in shower installation in a Harbor Gateway home, using classic 3x6 gray subway tile on the walls and a marble-look mosaic on the shower floor. The glass door and chrome fixtures were installed by the plumber; we handled the tile work from substrate preparation through final grout.

The subway tile is set in a running bond pattern — each row offset by half a tile from the row below. We started the layout from the back wall center and worked outward so the cuts at the side walls are equal. The accent strip at eye height uses a slightly different shade of gray in the same 3x6 format, which required careful grout line alignment across the transition.

The shower floor uses a marble-look 2x2 mosaic, which conforms to the sloped mortar bed more easily than larger tiles. The mortar bed was sloped at 1/4 inch per foot to the center drain, which required a four-way slope rather than a single directional pitch.
